[ARCHIVED] News from Public Works

Although we experienced another year of minimal snowfall, DPW was busy this winter with numerous icing events. This allowed crews to do equipment maintenance, as well as to focus on tree work throughout town. Trees have a life cycle, just as humans do, and we are faced with many trees in decline. The purchase of a bucket truck in 2016 has proved extremely beneficial, as well as a great working relationship with Eversource and Gary Bousquet, our Tree Warden.

Now that warm weather is upon us, our crews at the sports complexes become extremely busy prepping and lining all the fields for spring sports. This includes all school sports, as well as opening day of little league and the annual Clinton Invitational Soccer tournament. Road crews just finished our annual sweeping detail and are now focused on making sure all downtown properties are ready for summer visitors. The main focus includes mulching of all properties, assisting the beautification committee and garden club with placement of flower pots, as well as lining Route 1 with the American flags for the Memorial Day parade.

Roadwork this year will consist of paving and chip sealing, curbing repair, line striping and various drainage issue repairs. This year’s extremely high rainfall has necessitated the need for some enhancements in various areas of town.
